Patrick Gallagher and Atlanta Motorsports Group finished 2015 with a runner-up finish in the Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship. The duo is set to move up to the Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Championship in a Howard Concrete Pumping-sponsored Mazda MX-5 for 2016.
Gallagher a twenty-three year old native of Thornville, Ohio, joins the 2013 Mazda Club Racer Shootout winner and past teammate, Joey Bickers, who will drive the Atlanta Motorsports Group’s TCA entry.
“After a good run with the team in 2015, I am excited to take a step up into World Challenge with the same guys behind me. Jason and Tony won the TC championship with Michael Cooper a few years ago, and I know they will be ready to try and do it again.” Gallagher’s win in the final round of the MX-5 Cup at Petit Le Mans event has given both him and the team momentum to build off of in 2016. “Jason and Tony have been working all night for the past week to finish the car and make sure we have a good platform for the first weekend at Circuit of the Americas, so I know it will be up to me to make sure those late nights were worth it. It is a new series and car for me with a deep pool of talent that I have never raced with, so there will be a learning curve. I’m confident we can get our Howard Concrete Pumping Mazda out front.”
Gallagher’s first race of the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge Championship bid begins on March 4th at Circuit of the Americas with Round One of a double header, which can be watched live at www.world-challenge.com at 5:30pm EST. Round Two will take place at 12:45pm EST on Saturday, March 5th.
